Features
ECO-UV Ink
ECO-UV inks
adhere to a wide range of treated and untreated substrates with
exceptional color gamut. Instant-drying and flexible, ECO-UV inks
produce prints that require no degassing and can be stretched and
applied around curved surfaces and edges without cracking.
The LEJ series supports ECO-UV inks in two formulations:
original ECO-UV in CMYK, white and clear and ECO-UV S ink in CMYK and
white.
Original ECO-UV delivers outstanding performance for printing
environments that require clear coat to finish graphics. For
wide-format VersaUV devices configured with CMYK and white only (CMYK +
White + White), users can upgrade to ECO-UV S
for added flexibility. ECO-UV S expands up to 220 percent, allowing
graphics to wrap uneven shapes, indentations, corners and curved
surfaces. With ECO-UV S, prints mold perfectly to the contours of PET
bottles and plastic cups, and adhere flawlessly to vacuum-formed
plastic that is commonly used for items ranging from food service trays
to auto parts packaging and consumer electronics cases.
Choose from four ink configurations:
- Original ECO-UV
- CMYK + White + Clear
- CMYK + White + White
- CMYK + Clear + Clear
- ECO-UV S
As the most versatile ink configuration, CMYK + White + Clear
can be used for a wide range of applications including packaging
prototypes, labels, high end press-proofs and unique textured graphics.
(ECO-UV only)
The CMYK + White + White mode achieves higher opacity without
slowing down the printing with overprinting. It’s perfect for white
text and graphics, undercoats and to enhance the brightness of
four-color prints. The white produced with this ink configuration can
be up to 1.5 times more opaque than the normal white, all without
requiring a complicated workflow or overprinting. Choose from ECO-UV or
ECO-UV S formulations.
ECO-UV Clear adds remarkably rich special effects ranging
from matte and high-gloss finishes for area highlights or floods to
custom-textured effects such as faux leather, crocodile skin and even
Braille. The CMYK + Clear + Clear mode can build up three-dimensional
textures twice as fast as the normal ink mode and can produce more
dramatic effects with bigger reliefs. (ECO-UV only)
ECO-UV inks shine for indoor graphics, offering superior
scratch and chemical resistance. Outdoors, ECO-UV inks last up to six
months without clear (both formulations), and up to two years when
clear is applied as a finish (ECO-UV only).
ECO-UV inks are packaged in no-mess 220ml cartridges and safe
after curing. Proper ventilation is required. The LEJ series is
ventilation-ready, featuring a ventilation hood for easy connection with
an air filtration system.
*
Room ventilation and a Roland approved air filtration system are
required. Please consult the MSDS for more guidance on the proper use
and ventilation of ECO-UV or ECO-UV S inks.
Unsurpassed Media Compatibility
VersaUV supports printing on BOPP, PE, PET film, offset
printing stock and more. The low heat UV LED lamps allow printing on
heat-sensitive media such as shrink wrap, pressure sensitive media and
paper stocks with no risk of damaging the substrate. You can also use
the VersaUV to create original patterns and 3D domed corporate logos
directly onto synthetic and natural leathers and to customize window
coverings, tapestries and other interior décor items. The LEJ-640
enables printing on rigid media such as corrugated cardboard for
folding cartons, polycarbonate sheets for membrane switch applications
and Foam-Cor® or Gatorfoam® for POP and exhibit walls.
Automated Print Head Management
A built-in sensor checks for proper media thickness preventing
head strikes and ensures highly reliable, 1440x1440 dpi printing on the
widest range of substrates.
Production Print Speeds
The LEJ-640 features large UV-LED lamps to expedite production
with a maximum print speed of 133 sqft./hr. in High Speed mode. The
1440x1440 dpi mode produces press-proofs with flawlessly smooth
gradations, super fine details and sharp text on actual substrates used
for production. Roland Intelligent Pass Control™ ensures consistent
print quality with virtually no signs of banding in all print modes. State of the Art Curing System for Matte and Gloss Finishes

The VersaUV's ability to reposition its twin UV-LED lamps
automatically increases productivity in high quality modes and allows
simulation of matte and gloss varnishing effects.
Innovative Automated Ink Circulation System
The automated Ink Circulation System circulates the white ink
in the LEJ-640 every eight hours to prevent the settling of pigments
in the lines. In addition, this system controls the discharge of white
ink and minimizes waste by monitoring the white ink usage and the types
of jobs that are printed.
By preventing unnecessary discharges and minimizing the
amount of ink that is subject to settling, this automated system
significantly reduces the ink waste and eliminates manual maintenance
procedures that add labor and decrease productivity.
Note that, due to the nature of white ink, the white ink
cartridge still needs to be shaken prior to use each day as the ink in
the cartridge is not circulated by this system.
Longer Life
VersaUV LED lamps last up to 10,000 hours, ten times longer than conventional UV lamps.
Low Heat
While conventional UV lamps can reach temperatures as high as
1500°F (800°C) requiring complex heat management systems, the LED
lamps on the LEJ-640 generate very little heat. This ensures that the
UV lamps virtually eliminate any heat-related risks such as substrate
damage and head crash caused by media deformation.
Instant On/Off
LED lamps can be turned on and off instantly and are ready to
use immediately after the printer is turned on. By contrast,
conventional curing systems may take up to ten minutes to reach the
targeted output level. Conventional curing systems also require
complex, noisy and failure-prone shutter systems to protect substrates
and head capping systems from exposure to UV light and heat. VersaWorks RIP Software

VersaWorks RIP software
has been developed exclusively for Roland inkjet printers and
printer/cutters. This true Adobe PostScript 3 RIP ensures exceptional
production output with unmatched ease of use and incorporates the

understands that busy shops need to maximize the layout of their
workstations and printing equipment. High-speed Ethernet network
connectivity is built-in standard to the LEJ-640, so it can quickly
process gigabytes worth of image data for everyone in your shop.
Energy Efficient and Ozone Free
The LEJ-640 requires a fraction of the power required by
conventional UV printers and can be operated on a standard electrical
outlet without an additional power supply. This low power design
automatically saves thousands of dollars in electric bills each year and
reduces considerably the emission of green house gases.
In addition, the LEJ-640 uses a light source that is
completely ozone free and emits light in the range called Near-UV of
the UV spectrum, making it a safe alternative to conventional UV lamps.
The LEJ-640 carries Roland’s Eco-Label for environmental compliance.
Roland OnSupport Online Production Assistance
The LEJ-640 features Roland OnSupport, an online customer
support system allowing users to remotely track the status of the
printer’s activities. The system sends e-mails to users notifying them
of important information such as when a job is completed and when ink
is running low. With Roland OnSupport, users can also quickly download
firmware updates and important product information by accessing an
